As others have stated, OS X seems more sensitive to bad RAM. One thing you can do is to run the hardware CD test CD in "loop mode" Once you boot into the diagnostics CD, press CONTROL-L and it will loop through the tests until you stop it.
Run in extended test mode and let it go overnight or for a few hours if you can -- it sometimes catches problems not found in a single pass.
