Essentially:
You give Server X your LiveJournal URL.
Server X asks LiveJournal Server if you really are you.
LiveJournal Server asks you if your really going to that site, and if you trust that site.
Assuming you say yes, LiveJournal Server will then tell Server X that you are you.

Or at least that's what I think is going on... o.O Correct me if I'm wrong?

iBook update:
I have a brand new iBook now. Completely free - did a CRU... erm... something or other. Sorta like a return/exchange sorta thing.

Mmmm... Yeah, essentially, I brought in all of my paperwork for the previous 4 logic board replacements and was very amused to see the shock on the Apple Genius guy's face. So they agreed to give me a brand new iBook (I had originally asked to do a paid upgrade to a PowerBook, but I don't know how they ended up deciding on giving me an iBook instead... bad communication, probably. and I didn't push the issue, since they credited my broken (custom built - I got airport, but it was 1 GHZ and 40 GB) iBook for $1,299 and sold me a stock 1.33 GHZ/60 GB/AirportExpress iBook for the same amount, so I decided not to push the issue of a PowerBook ('cause, you know, if I wanted that lighted keyboard - which I don't really need, I'd need to pay $1000 or so...
