Rio is.. dead?
D&M Holdings Inc., today announced it would exit the mass-market portable digital audio player business, currently marketed under the Rio brand, by September 30, 2005. D&M Holdings will retain the Rio brand and trademark, and as previously announced the company retains access via license to MP3 player technology that was sold in July to SigmaTel, Inc.

Ok, scratch the idea to get the Rio player... :: sighs:: Apple, your prices better go down soon. I want an iPod mp3 player for no more than $50.

Uh oh...this may make access to tech support (etc.) a bit more difficult for me...

You could have tried the iPods they had in Taiwan. They might've been cheaper.... who knows.

What capacity? If you're willing to spring for A bity flash-based player, you can pick one up for, like, $30. Hard-drive based...I think one would have to drop the screen and a god deal of hard-drive space to make a viable $50 player.

I heard apple is switching to high-capaciy flash for the next generation of 4GB minis. That should drive down prices, and this generation will be all over the ebay.

Mmmm, either expandable with flash thingies (SD cards, CF cards, etc), or at least 512, around 2-4 hours of decent quality music... (rather, all of my stuff is encoded at 192, if not 320 CRB, and I don't want to go through the hassle of re-encoding).

Yeah. But there's a very good chance they're release their fifth generation iPod as well, which is what I want to buy... (all estimates say before the end of this year) I just need something to tide me over until then - I want music for my 10-15 walks from apartment to class.
